Fashionably Early - Best Arrival We Could Have Hoped For
Here we are, mom and pop home from the hospital Wednesday night. The babes are still at the hospital, which is what nobody wanted. That said, the babies are thriving...where to begin...?
After calling the doctor late Monday night (the 10th of January), it became apparent that there was a good liklihood that I was leaking amniotic fluid. It seems laughable now, but I honestly thought I was just experiencing the oh-so-motherly pleasure of losing control of my bladder. The doctor recommended I come in to rule out any problems and so about 11pm that night I called Jason at work and told him I was heading to the hospital but fully expected any problems to be ruled out. Thankfully, good old Brian was presently visiting Jason at work and took over the shift and JP was able to escort me to the hospital. (He called from the road, swearing he wasn't speeding, but he did make it home in very short order). I remember packing a bag and when JP came home he said, "Oh my god, what if this is it?" I distinctly recall thinking I must be overreacting - surely everything would be okay.
Ironically, we knew exactly where to go at the hospital - where to park, where to enter, where to to check in because just 5 hours earlier we had been at the hospital to take an informational tour of the birthing facilities. I also recall in a moment that lacked my usual level of superstition, telling JP to leave to leave the bag I had packed in the car. ( Ordinarily I would have wanted to bring my bag, to insure that we WOULDN'T need it - but I guess I was distracted ).
After arriving at the hospital, we were taken in to the "labor assessment" room and vitals were taken. I was shocked when the very sleepy resident told me the fluid I was leaking had 3 of the 3 markers indicating it to be amniotic fluid. At this moment, Jason and I both mistakably thought this meant delivery was imminent. This idea was quashed rapidly, I was admitted and proceeded to spend the next 5 days in limbo - in the most profound sense of the word.
Fast forward 5 days to Saturday - I was definitly ill, but stubbornly I was determined to chalk up my symtoms ( swollenness, acute headache, shakiness) various benign causes (any combination of caffeine withdrawal, reactions to drugs, etc.).
Saturday night Jason and I were just settling in for a quiet night when the nurst came in saying my blood work indicated a change for the worse and they were moving me to the labor & delivery wing.
We went over there, thinking it was just for closer observation and within 5 minutes I was being prepared for surgery.
Hi everyone. its jason now doing the typing and i am slow so ill readers digest condensed version the rest of the story, probably out of order...
so then the girls were born. it was 9;12am 1 15 05 by 9;13 it was all over . well, not so much over as they went over to the next room for all sorts of special procedures for girls so little. meanhwile, sarah got cleaned up from a very smooth c section.
over the next few days dad tended to the girls and sarah while fielding calls from all over and sleeping on various cots and cushions with lots of no sleeping.
sarah mended really well and here we are only a few days later at home again. the girls are due home in about 4 to 5 weeks as they are not ready for the world quite yet. for now its lots of trips to the hospital for feed ing and cuddling and setting up cribs and so forth.
enough for now, make a little posting of your own and ask about anything you wish and we'll make an effort to respond soon.
