Approximately 4 minutes post-nap

Every day when I walk into the nursery to fetch them from their nap, it's like the coziness is thick in the air and I immediately want to crawl into bed myself and cuddle these little babes around me and doze all together forever. That And I want to grab them and swing them from place to place and tell them all of the things they missed while they were sleeping: "Here is the MAIL! It comes almost every day! Here is the dishwasher! It washed your cups while you were sleeping! This is a telephone! It rang 4 times while you slept! I heard "Duke of Earl on the radio AND I had a cup of Earl Grey tea - here is what Earl Grey smells like!"
Does anyone out there know what I mean? But I look at this photo and I can feel the warmth of their cheeks and the shakiness of their sleepy bodies and I already want to go and kiss them. Don't you?

Ida + Papa out for Ice Cream

Here is Ida on Jason's lap as she gazes around the Ben and Jerry's decor. A far cry from our living room, where these girls seem to spend 99.99% of their waking ours. We got this wild hair to take them out for strawberry ice cream, and I'm so glad we did. The had a wonderful time, there were no meltdowns (except for the creamy sort), and I got some nice photos. It was a great day.

Pink hair clip, pink sweatshirt, pink ice cream, pink cheeks. Our pink little doodlebug liked her ice cream for sure.

On Saturday, April 22 we took the the girls out for ice cream for the first time. It was a gorgeous, warm day so we pile them into the van and drove over to Hawthorne and went to the Ben and Jerry's for strawberry cones. Lcuy brought her sweet tooth, I'm telling you what, but here she is after indulging with maybe a little too much gusto.

Lucy in the afternoon

The afternoon light in our dining room is really great and I had Lucy sitting up on the "Daddy Chair" (we have an old dining set that features only one chair with arms) and Lulu just kept looking at me with so much love and pointing around the room and saying "sat?" (we think this is short for "what's that?" because she (and the other girls) point all over and say it over and over. Anyhow, here is our Lulu in all her glory (well maybe not ALL of it...).

On March 21, we celebrated the girls first due-date birthday by sitting on the floor and eating a bowl of whipped cream with sprinkles. Ruthie was clearly touched by the gesture, don't you think?

She can say "hat" too!

Here is what the world looks like to me most of the time. You sit on the floor, you lean on things when you can and babies (at least a dozen, I think) climb all over you all the time, breathing on you, drooling on you, pulling on you, yelling at you, laughing, crying. It's paradise. And hell. Paradise with a dash of hell, but I wouldn't trade it for anything at all.

How about those peepers? She had just woken up from her nap, and this often makes her a little sad. On this Easter day, she had been crying and rubbing her face and then I showed her the basket that had been left for her and she seemed so touched - like it was too good to be true..."an egg? for me? how wonderful!" I think she would say if she could.

Lucy holds her very own Easter egg and the single chocolate egg that the Bunny left her. She promptly began sucking on the blue egg, which resulted in very blue lips and when this got boring she put the chocolate egg in her mouth, foil and all. "What did you expect?" you may ask...well, I guess that's what I expected which is why I just fished it right out again and removed the foil and gave it back to her in small pieces. Turns out our little Lulu has quite a sweet tooth.

Ida with her very own Easter Egg

Look at this girl! Don't you just want to pick her up and squinch her? She is so intent on figuring out her very own Easter Egg, left in the basket by the Easter Bunny. She eventually broke through the shell and it was heartbreaking to take it away, as she seemed rather attached to it. Simple pleasures...

This was taken one afternoon when Ruthie had had a hard time going down for her nap and after finally falling asleep she promptly woke back up and wanted to hang out with dad for a while. (That or she wanted to cozy up to the pot roast he was cooking).
